Secondly, if this practice is so harmless, why is it still based on the Bible, which is a hateful book whose message is about as harmless and ethical as that of Mein Kampf. Yes, with all the different religions and versions of god s the odds are good most are in the wrong club. If the Hindus are right, then Brahma and Vishnu will not be happy about worshiping this Jesus figure. The humanist position assumes that religion actually reflects the whole understanding of the Spiritual dimension.

But most religions as generally practiced by most of their believers actually have a very limited, clouded and incomplete understanding of the "God or Spiritual principle".

But there are much more complete, logical, holistic, science compatible versions of "God or the Spiritual principle than what the average religious experience provides. Humanism and Atheism should debate such much more mature versions of "Spirituality" instead but it doesn't even know they exist because the baby is normally thrown out with the dirty bathwater.

Pascal's Wager is rather easy pickings to be sure. Attempting to separate spirituality from religion is an understandable reaction to uncomfortable realities, but it links far better with religion than it does with science. Perhaps you could offer a specific author or claim, or define your terms.

I reject the idea that we're interconnected by anything other than our own psychological inventions. I reject that Life has any overarching purpose. So in short, the "non-refundable spiritualist's" view is no more worthy of debate than the religious view.

It's all equally invalid. Most spiritualists and theists, like psychics and palm readers, are non-refundable. They all seem to take the money and run! Eric, first you'd have to clearly define this spiritual dimension and show us some evidence that it exists. In the history of the world, no one has ever done that. If someone can do that, then we could have a meaningful debate about it. But until then, the only rational response to assertions that a spiritual dimension exists has to be "I don't believe you".
